Library Services

The Library offers materials for loan, interlibrary loans and information services.

The Library is open to everyone. With a library card, you can borrow books, magazines, films, music, games and sports equipment free of charge. At the library, you can spend time reading, studying, working, and listening to music and audio books, to name just a few options.

Posio Library has an open wireless internet network, three computers and a Virtu shared service point. At the Virtu service point, you can deal with various different public authorities online. You can reserve the Virtu room for managing various administrative matters or for meetings. There is also digitisation equipment in the Virtu room.

With a library card from Posio Library, you can borrow and reserve material from the whole of Lapland. The Library of Lapland network has a shared online library where you can search for materials, renew your loans and reserve items.

If you have a reading disability, you can borrow Celia audiobooks or ordinary audiobooks with your library card. If you wish, you can also register as a Celia library customer to receive Celia audiobooks sent directly to your home.

You can get a library card by visiting the Library’s customer service desk. You will need to fill in a library card application form and prove your identity with an identity card, driving licence or passport. The first library card is free of charge.

The Library charges a fee for overdue books. • Interlibrary loans from outside the Library of Lapland are subject to a fee. • The Library also offers printing and copying services, for which a fee is charged in accordance with a separate pricelist. • The use of the facilities at Posio Library is free of charge.

You can visit and spend time in the Library as you wish. You will need a library card to borrow material from the Library. The same library card is valid in all the libraries of the municipalities of Lapland. A library card for a child under 15 years of age must be applied for by their guardian. When you fill in the library card application form, you agree to abide by the Library’s rules. If you want to use the Library during the self-service hours, access your account in the online library and use e-resources, you will need the pin code assigned to your library card. Children under 15 years of age need written consent from their guardian to use the self-service library. Most of the Library’s services are free of charge. Interlibrary loans, using the photocopier, and printing are subject to fees.
