Information packages for newcomers as part of the Municipality’s Work and Stay project 

As part of the Municipality of Posio’s Work and Stay project, one of the key goals is to develop settling services for newcomers and thereby improve the municipality’s attractiveness and retention. Two information packages have been prepared and are now published, offering information for those moving to Posio. 

New in Posio – A Guide for Movers 

This guide presents the most essential services in Posio for anyone interested in the area or who has recently moved here. It provides information on working in Posio, housing, entrepreneurship, services for children and families, and leisure opportunities. The guide also highlights the municipality’s settlement services, which include a welcome package for newcomers. The package contains: 

• A one-month gym pass 

• A 40 euro gift card to the adult education center 

• Three months of access to the digital version of Koillissanomat newspaper 

• Posio-branded products 

Through this welcome package, the municipality warmly welcomes new residents. This information package is available in both Finnish and English. 

Proudly from Posio – The Immigrant Service Pathway 

This second information package provides international newcomers with information on residence permits and other official matters, the Finnish education system, and opportunities to study the Finnish language in Posio. This information package is available in Finnish, English, and Filipino. 

Both information packages begin with a greeting from the Mayor: 

Dear new resident of Posio, it is a pleasure to welcome you to Posio! 

Here, unique nature and peace, culture, and warm community spirit come together. The snow-covered snow-laden trees of Riisitunturi and the fish-rich waters of Kitka are part of our everyday life. We value collaboration, entrepreneurship, and local traditions. Together, we are proudly Posio residents! 

I hope you feel at home and find your place as part of our caring community. The municipality offers you diverse services as well as opportunities for work and entrepreneurship. Work and Stay – kokonainen elämä Koillismaalla is a group project led by the City of Kuusamo. Co-implementers include Naturpolis Oy (Koillis-Suomi Development Company), Ksakki ry, the Municipality of Posio, the City of Pudasjärvi, the Municipality of Puolanka, and the Municipality of Taivalkoski. The project is co-funded by the European Union and runs from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025. 

The aim of the project is to increase well-being, employment, and vitality in the Koillismaa region, especially by preventing social exclusion, promoting employment for those poorly attached to the labor market, and improving access to skilled labor.
